AND THE WINNERS ARE...
For this challenge, you will be taking a run-of-the-mill mass produced Disney coloring page and using your skills as an artist to make it extraordinary! So get your markers/tablets/mouses etc. ready for our coloring book challenge!
This is a GREAT way to practice coloring. If you feel weak in your coloring, be sure to enter! You don't have to win to be a winner.
This is actually the fourth time we've had this contest! If you want to view the winners and other entries from our last coloring book challenges, go to these pages:
Coloring Book Challenge 2012 Coloring Book Challenge 2014 Coloring Book Challenge 2015 Get a Disney coloring book page and color it! These pages can be found easily online using google. We also have a websites suggestions section below for your convenience.
Try to use only official coloring book pages. It should be pretty easy to spot a fan coloring page. If you do use a fan coloring page by accident, we won't hold it against you, though. Why do we want it to be official? Because Disney coloring book pages are usually pretty dang simple, and it's great to see something simple turned into something extraordinary. If you use a fan page, it might be a little too stylized already, and we want your stylization to come out when you use your creativity when you color the page.
We'll also allow you to color pencil test drawings from movies if you so please, the reason being there are a lot of lesser-known movies that don't have coloring pages.
You are allowed to add or subtract to your coloring page. Example1: There's a coloring page with Ariel sitting on a rock and you want to add a whale in the background. Go ahead!
Example2: There are two characters on your coloring page, but you only want to color one. Feel free to cut one out!
Also feel free to splice coloring pages. You can take part of one coloring page and put it together with another if you want. But, you're only allowed to splice up to three pages. Why? Once again: we don't want someone who puts together a page with every single character for the auto-win based on popularity.
You can change the pose or expressions of the characters in the image, but be sure to keep it similar enough to the coloring page so we can tell you used the original lineart as a base.
You don't have to keep the lineart from your chosen coloring page. Example: If you want to paint over it in such a way as to make it lineless (painterly), then go ahead. Just as long as you used the lineart as a base you're fine.
Traditional art is allowed. (of course!) Just print out your picture or trace it to color it.
Note: You can't just get a pain bucket and fill in the picture with flat colors. We had a little too much of that last time. You have to put some sort of thought into it, whether it be just adding patterns or shading, or what have you.
Feel free to change the character in your coloring page into another one! Example: There's a picture of Jasmine in a really cool pose, and you want to change it into Belle. go ahead! But, once again: make sure the judges can still tell you used a certain coloring page's lineart as your base. (don't change the pose too much)
Please give us a link to your coloring page (or upload it if you actually have a physical one in your house and have a scanner) in the description of your deviation. This is important because part of the judging is seeing how well you transformed your page. If you don't show us what you used, judging your entry would be difficult.
Feel free to pick coloring inspiration from another artist! Example: You color a picture of Princess Jasmine in the style of a Rembrandt.
You're allowed TWO entries. Suggestion: If you want to do more than two, do so then decide which ones you want to enter in the contest.
Only Disney coloring pages should be used. So, don't add Anastasia or something to your page. No non-Disney crossovers. (Disney-Disney crossovers, however, are just fine.)
Your entry into the contest must be new! Where's the fun in entering something you already made a million years ago? You can only enter pictures your created after this contest was put up (11-02-16).
No fan pairings. It's a general rule of the group so, don't for example: Edit a picture of Prince Eric and Ariel kissing into a picture of Jim Hawkins and Ariel kissing.
PIXAR coloring pages are allowed, of course.
Ghibli, Star Wars (Unless it's Star Wars Rebels), ABC shows, and Marvel movies are
not allowed.
Our Kingdom Hearts rules also still stand. If you find a coloring page of the Kingdom Hearts video game, there MUST be a Disney character in it.
Your entry must be rated PG-13. Don't edit anything naughty into your coloring page.
Extra Points!Everyone's favorite section! If you want extra points for the popular vote section (and maybe a nod from the judges), here are ways to earn some.
If you do these, please mention them in the description of your entry so the admins don't miss that you did them:
Model your coloring style off of a famous artist = +5 (Examples: Gogh, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, etc.) And please leave link in your description to some of their art so we can compare. If you find an artwork that doesn't have an artist's name attached, ancient artwork, or you'd like to use a generic style (say cubism), you may do that as well. Just be sure to still link us to your inspirational piece. You cannot use another DeviantARTist's style as your inspiration.
Leave a comment on all the other entries (must be at least two sentences, and must be about the art itself) = +5 (will change to +10 if we get over 100 entries). PLEASE comment as the contest progresses. Otherwise you won't be able to leave thoughtful comments if you do it at the last second.
When you're done with your entry, please submit it to our
Contest 54 - Coloring Book Challenge folder in our group's gallery!
Please only submit your entry
once because the folder is limited to only 2 per person. You entry should be accepted into the group within at least a day and a half. After that, please comment here asking why it wasn't submitted.
In other words: Don't panic if your entry isn't accepted within two seconds of submission. The admins aren't online 24/7.
If you have any other questions, please either leave a comment here or note
DrZime Since this contest is a little more technical, your entry will be partially based on your coloring skills as well as your creativity.
Effort. The judges can really tell how much effort was put into an image.
Be unexpected! We're expecting there to be a lot of princess pages, so if you choose something out of the box like, oh say Meet the Robinsons, you'll stand out and do that much better with the judges.
Transformation! The best coloring pages will only barely be recognizable from what they were before. Your coloring should take the original lineart out and beyond from what it once was.
Once again: PLEASE leave us a link to the coloring page you chose! We want to see how much you changed the original lineart!
Your panel of judges are:
Judges may enter too, if they want. But, you'll only be up for the win in the popular vote section.
If you want to be a judge, just leave a comment and we might add you. We'll only add up to two more.
Due Date: December 30th, 2016, midnight. There are no extensions. Use your time wisely and don't procrastinate.
There's a countdown on our front page if you want to see
exactly how much time you have left.
Here are some coloring book websites I've found that may come in handy. If you can find other sites, let me know and I'll add 'em!
Google Images - Disney Coloring Pages Coloring Pages Has lots of Disney movies on their list. Be sure not to pick a non-Disney movie, though!
Three prizes will be given by popular vote, and three will be given by our panel of judges.

If you're willing to donate a subscription to one of the winners, just let us know! ^0^
You may still enter the contest even if you want to give a prize, too.
