Contest 56 - MerMay - WINNERS!

Since it's May, we're throwing a mermaids contest that'll last until the end of the month.
Read the rules below for more information!




- Your chosen mermaid must be from a Disney franchise. Do not draw/write about Mermaids from other companies.

- Do not make up an original Mermaid.

- Only characters who're actually mermaids in their movie/tv show will be allowed in the contest.
In other words, you can't draw a character who was never a mermaid/merman and make them into one.

- You can include other characters in the picture, but just remember the mermaid/man must be the focus.

- We're only allowing up to five mermaids/men per picture/literature. So don't include more than that.

- Crossovers are fine, but only with other Disney characters.

Extra Points
If you comment on all the entries, you'll get an extra five points toward your popular vote score. These comments must be meaningful, and must be about the art specifically, not just about the character presented.
Example of bad comments: "I love Ariel!", "This is cool.", "That was an movie."
Example of a good comment: "I love Ariel, and I adore the pose you drew her in. It's very dynamic."


- Regular group rules still apply. Be sure to read those if you're not up on them.

- You can have two entries, but that's the limit.

- Keep it clean. No nudity, gore, or nipples poking through clothes. NO FETISHES! G-rated, please!

- You may enter the contest even if you're not a member. Comment in this journal with a link to your entry when you're done so I can add it here.

- Any medium is allowed. That means writing, too.

- Plagiarism is not allowed. (Pretty obvious rule) No tracing. No one should have an unfair advantage in the contest.

- Your entry must have been created for this contest. In other words, you can't enter a piece you did before the creation of this contest.  [05-02-17]

- No gender-bending, race-bending, species-bending, etc.

- To submit your entry, simply submit it to our Contest 56 - MerMay folder in our gallery!
Please do not submit it to any other folder, or we may miss it.

- And please be aware it can take up to a day for us to list your entry here/ accept it into the group. We have about 20,000+ members, so it takes us a little bit of time to get through all our messages. If you've been waiting for more than a day and a half, THEN you can send us a note and ask what's up. At any rate, your entry WILL be added before the due-date, we promise.

- When the contest is over, we'll put up a  journal with all the entries on it, and the members will vote on which one they think is best. And, a panel of judges will decide on three other winners.

- Three winners will be chosen by popular vote, and three will be chosen by a panel of judges (unless we don't get enough entries. In that case we'll only have a popular vote section)

Random? If you want to draw a random mermaid/man you saw in the background of a scene in a movie/TV show, feel free to draw them. Just be sure to provide a link to an image of them so we know you're not making him/her up.

Reminder: we do not allow Kingdom Hearts in this particular group.





Your entries are due the 31st at midnight Texas Time.
There will be no extensions. Use your time wisely and don't procrastinate!





Judges may enter the contest, but they will only be eligible to win in the Popular Vote section.

We chose our winners by creativity, originality and personality more than artwork. So, be sure to stretch your imagination!

How to Gain Favor with the Judges

- Be creative! The best artwork will not necessarily win. Think out of the box, and go wild!

- We will not choose anyone who traces an image from a screenshot or another artist. Take an original view, or use your own style to make your artwork unique. :3

- Write about your creative process and inspiration in your description. We will also be reading those.

- Put effort into your work. You don't have to be the best artist for your effort to show. Believe me, we can tell.

- Make a scene! There's nothing more boring to us than a bunch of characters standing around. Bring it to life!





Three prizes will be given by popular vote, and three will be given by our panel of judges. If we don't get at least 20 entries, then we'll remove the judge's section.
